A little something for laughs

TRADITIONAL ECONOMICS
You have two cows.
You sell one and buy a bull.
Your herd multiplies and the economy grows.
You retire on the income.

CHINESE ECONOMICS
You have two cows.
You have 300 people milking them.
You claim full employment, high bovine productivity
and arrest anyone reporting the actual numbers.

INDIAN ECONOMICS
You have two cows.
You worship them.

PAKISTAN ECONOMICS
You don’t have any cows.
You claim that the Indian cows belong to you.
You ask the US for financial aid, China for military
aid, Britain for warplanes, Italy for machines,
Germany for technology, France for submarines,
Switzerland for loans, Russia for drugs and Japan
for equipment.
You buy the cows with all this and claim
exploitation by the world.

AMERICAN ECONOMICS
You have two cows.
You sell one and force the other to produce the
milk of four cows.
You profess surprise when the cow drops dead.
You put the blame on some nation with cows &
naturally that nation will be a danger to mankind.
You wage war to save the world and grab the cows.

FRENCH ECONOMICS
You have two cows.
You go on strike because you want three cows.

GERMAN ECONOMICS
You have two cows.
You reengineer them so that they live for 100
years, eat once a month and milk themselves.

BRITISH ECONOMICS
You have two cows.
They are both mad.

ITALIAN ECONOMICS
You have two cows.
You don’t know where they are.
You break for lunch.

SWISS ECONOMICS
You have 5000 cows, none of which belong to you.
You charge others for storing them.

JAPANESE ECONOMICS
You have two cows.
You redesign them so that they are one-tenth the
size of an ordinary cow and produce twenty times
the milk.
You then create cute cartoon cow images called
COWKIMON and market them worldwide.

RUSSIAN ECONOMICS
You have two cows.
You count them and learn you have five cows.
You count them again and learn you have 42 cows.
You count them again and learn you have 17 cows.
You give up counting and open another bottle of
vodka.

MALAYSIAN ECONOMICS
You have two cows.
You slaughter one for Hari Raya Puasa and the
other for Hari Raya Haji.
Just before that, both the cows were wandering
along the PLUS Highways.

PHILIPPINE ECONOMICS
You have only one cow.
So the government claims there is a shortage of
cows.
The government ask grants from other countries so
the country can produce more cows.
The other countries oblige.
The government divides the grants among
themselves, and blames the opposition of
corruption.
The people stage People Power 42.
The government is overthrown.
Then its back to the single cow.

The last stand of RP football

THE final seed to save Philippine football has been planted, and the fruits will be reaped in 10 years.

The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) is set to put up 15 Centers For Excellence all over the country, including one in Cebu, to develop players for the national team.

No more Fil-foreigners and no more half-baked RP teams for international tournaments.

“This is geared for the 1992 age bracket, and it was national Men’s team coach Aries Caslib who really pushed for this to address the problem of the national team,” said Springdale coach Mario Ceniza, who joined the June 11-22 seminar in Bago City with 14 other coaches.

The project aims to win the country’s first gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games by 2015.

Caslib, left with no skilled players develop locally, has scoured the globe for Fil-foreigners to boost the team.

“He doesn’t want to have Fil-foreigners anymore in order to develop local players,” Ceniza said.

Ceniza said that each CFE will have a pool of 22-25 players, whose training will be closely monitored by its local staff along with the PFF.

“We have a single syllabus that all CFEs must follow. It’s like the way they do it in Europe; we will monitor each player’s height, weight and we will have weekly and monthly progress reports,” Ceniza said.

Ceniza will conduct tryouts for the Cebu CFE pool in the next few weeks, and he is inviting all kids born in 1992 to join.

“This year, there will be camps in the Visayas, Luzon and Mindanao, and 40 from each will be sent to the national CFE,” he said,

“This is the last frontier of Philippine football and if this won’t work, I don’t know where Philippine football is going,” Ceniza said.

Fil foreigners in town

AFTER the locals, it’s the turn of the Fil-foreigners, including a Chelsea FC reserve, to strut their wares in the trials for the national team at the Ultra Sports Stadium.

Philip and James Younghusband are members of Chelsea’s developmental pool, and one of them is joining the national team.

Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in England and is the current English Premier League champion.

“They will be arriving late tonight (last night), and I’m not sure whether its Philip or James but he will be here with us for two weeks,” said national team coach Aries Caslib.

Whether it will be Philip or James, either is a welcome addition to the team, which already has the six-footer Ali Borromeo, since both have trained with the Chelsea FC since they were 10.

At 19, James has had a few substitute appearances for their reserve squad, but younger brother Philip has had a few more stints.

According to the official Chelsea FC website: “Like older brother James, Philip has been with Chelsea since the age of 10 where he has progressed through the system to make his first reserve start in November, scoring his first goal soon after. A striker or midfielder, he is in his second season as a scholar and ended 2004 as youth team top scorer.”

“We really need more players,” Aries Caslib said, “and there’s a chance that one of the Younghusbands will play for us.”

Caslib is facing a daunting task of getting the first medal in football in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games this year.

In 1991, the last time the country hosted the Games, the Philippines made it to the semifinals but lost to finish fourth.

After forming the pool, the team will leave for a tournament in Vietnam later next month before a one-month training in China.

In last year’s Tiger Cup, the Philippine team, beefed up by Fil-foreigners Chris Greatwitch and Chad Gould, got its first win in the biennial tournament with a 3-2 escape over Timor Liste.

Kainos wins on own goal

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
CHAMPIONS: an own goal gave Kainos the championship.

NCR’s Norberto Tongoy scored the lone goal in the 1st Asia Town IT Park Inter Company Football tournament against Kainos Football Club last Saturday at the SVD field.

Unfortunately, it was against his own team as he gifted the People Support manned Kainos their championship trophy after four weeks of eliminations.

The eliminations for the four-team tourney, which also had ladies in their lineup started last May and ended last June 4 with the chamionship on June 11.

In a tightly fought final, both teams seemed headed to a shoot out after they checked each other offense, before that fateful Tongoy incident in the final two minutes of extra time.

Kainos FC midfielder Ron Palang sent a low drive off a corner kick inside the penalty box, however Tongoy hit his clearance off the back of Miguel Lorenzo, sending the ball back into their own court for their heart breaking loss.

In the battle for third place, NEC won over TTSP 1-0.

The other members of the champion squad are Rowena Retuerto, Elna Ruby Liboon,
Joanne Caroline Asuncion, Miguel Antonio Lorenzo, Martin Luke Abragan, John Edward Mendoza, Dax Malony Montealegre, Carlos Zialcita, Jonathan Duran, Lord Benjamin Belga,
Rouel Palang, Ralph Jon Palacios, Ryan Dawn Umadhay, Noel Tadifa, Alex Jupista and Mark Geronimo Ele

Saviour of the field

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
DEAD FIELD: If you can spot a strand of grass, you’ve got Superman’s eyesight.

THE dead football field at the Cebu City Sports Center will get a much needed facelift, thanks to a private group.

Councilor Jack Jakosalem said that a private group is willing to offer as much P300,000 worth of top class grass for the CCSC field.

Years after it was constructed the field is reduced to a shell of its former self with the absence of grass, presence of sharp materials and other garbage.

“We were just talking and the topic came and they said they were willing to donate the grass, provided that it would be properly maintained,” Jakosalem said.

The chairman of the City Commission on Games and Amusements said that he can’t divulge the identity of the group yet. “This is a very welcome development and it shows how the private sector can help,” he said.

It will also be a big boost to CCSC manager Ricky Ballesteros who has been trying hard to preserve the field so as to show something green in time for the 23rd Southeast Asian Games opening in Nov.

He has fenced the field so as to stop people from walking all over it and by the first week of July, he will start the renovation.

“Bungkagun na namo ang field and we will put some fertilizer and maybe some compost soil from the project in Barangay Luz,” Ballesteros said.

They will also start planting some grass seedlings, and with the donation, the CCSC won’t be shelling that much money for the grass.

The move will also be good news for football players and fans who have been aching for a decent field for years while drooling at the top class field in San Carlos City and in Bacolod.

RP pool drops to fourth

BLEH: ako napud picture ako ibutang

THE RP Under-23 team stumbled in the final day losing, 1-3, to the Philippine Air Force in the championship of the Barotac Nuevo Men’s Open Invitational yesterday in Iloilo.

The loss dropped the RP team to fourth overall behind PAF, runners-up Philippine Navy and Philippine Army.

“It was a tough game. They scored two goals in the first half before we came within one and Michael Casas was put in,” midfielder Oliver Colina said.

Before RP could score an equalizer, disaster hit after one of its defenders deflected the ball towards his own goal.

In the other game, the Philippine Navy defeated the Army men, 2-1, to place second.

The invitational tournament served as an experiment of sorts for the members of the national training pool, which has no Fil-foreigner yet.

“We still haven’t jelled since we just played together for a few days,” said Colina, “I was placed as a midfielder then as a striker, the coaches really put us in different positions to see what really fits us.”

After the tournament, the RP training pool will return to Manila for another phase of training before it leaves for a tournament in Vietnam and a one-month training in China.

National coach Aries Caslib, which gave the RP pool’s reins to Rolando Piñero and Melo Sabacan as he was conducting a seminar in Bacolod, will also hold trials for Fil-foreigners in Manila next week.
