THE Dads United kept their 36-above crown in the Mizuno Cup yesterday after repulsing the Hiroshi FC, thanks to a different kind of “dad”—a French priest.
Fr. Gregory Plus, a priest based at Community of St. John in Banawa, banged in the lone goal in the 10th minute for Dads United 1-0 win over Hiroshi in the final yesterday.
“He is the dad of all of us,” said one member of the team after their victory.

THE Canduman Elementary School-M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation (CES-MLSDF) and the Abellana National School-Pomeroy came up with steadier shots in the shootout to win their respective divisions in the Mintsports Shop Mizuno Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Both teams defeated separate squads from Paref Springdale to rule their division.
In the Players 10 finals, CES-MLSDF’s Mark Joseph Pelizelda won a shootout of sorts with Enzo Ceniza to lead his team to a 2-0 win in the shootout.
In regulation, Ceniza put Springdale on top with a lovely goal from the corner in the eighth minute.

Since there is another tournament this weekend and presumably, more pictures, I guess I have to upload this before another batch of pics.

By the way, I was told that three prominent sports personalities (two colleagues and a…) said I shouldn’t be concentrating on football because there is no market for football in Cebu.
Of course, coming from folks who have never seen a football festival, I’ll take that statement with other “informed opinions” from uninformed fools.

NINE-year-old Lawrence Colina averted a shutout for the hosts after banging in two goals in the San Roque Football Fiesta Players 10 final yesterday.
Colina’s goals lifted SRFC, which lost in three other finals in the two-day event, to a 2-1 win over the improving MLSDF Canduman.
After getting behind by a goal, Colina banged in two for his team’s seventh straight win and earning him the MVP nod in the division.
In the Boys 14 final, Jason Paculaba banged in John Rey Nieves’ miss to carry the Abellana National School Pomeroy, to a 1-0 win over the Blessed John Seminary.
THREE teams got their titles after a little bit of luck as shootouts dominated the first day of the Pepsi Presents San Roque Football Fiesta at the San Roque Parish football grounds yesterday.
Paref-Springdale took home the Boys 17 crown after beating Abellana National School (ANS), while Guissepe and Sacred Heart School ruled the Girls 12 and Girls 17 categories respectively with San Roque Football Club finishing second in both contests.
A HUNDRED and thirty teams signed up for the second edition of the Pepsi San Roque Football Fiesta on Aug. 18 and 19 in Mandaue City.
Organizer Eleazer Toledo said there was a drop in the number of entries from last year’s event because some schools have limited their entries in the annual fiesta, which offers contest in the various age groups in the Boys and Girls divisions as well as the men’s and women’s open.
Though they may have been absentees in the roster, Toledo said they also have a few new schools like the Little Angels Montessori signing up for this year’s edition.
The screening for the festival will also be conducted by the Cebu Football Association, which is imposing a new rule regarding football events.
“We were told that if you organize a football event, the CebuFA will hold the screening because they have the records,” said Toledo.
The CebuFA’s role is also expected to limit or erase notions of cheating in the age divisions, which hounded two festivals last year.
Meanwhile, though they will be the host, members of the San Roque Men’s and 36-above team won’t be seeing action in the two-day fiesta, which is the first football event in Cebu since the Aboitiz Cup ended last summer.
The team members, though, would still be visible during the event.
“The whole men’s team and the 36-above team will be the marshals for the event,” said Toledo.
Since the event coincides with their annual fiesta, Toledo is hoping the marshals will be able to discourage people from drinking liquor in the sidelines and to keep the peace in the festival.
