Beat that Brazilian: and the Azkals

A colleague of mine informed me that the company (or was it franchise) involved with Havianias is holding a “free kick” tournament this Saturday at IT park.  They are reportedly planning to bring in a Brazilian keeper, and if you can beat the keeper, you get a reward.

I told my colleague to tell the organizer to put up a wide screen and show the RP team’s final match against Bhutan, which will be aired live this Saturday on Solar Sports.

I just hope they take up and listen to the offer.

Who has Solar Sports?

Thanks to the idiots running Skycable, the biggest Sham on Air no longer has Solar Sports.  Of course, Solar Sports will be airing the three AFC Challenge Cup games.  Anybody here who has solar sports or has any idea where we can catch the games live?

Please?

football update

USJ-R lost in the semifinals of the Prisaa, the boys are in Palawan for the Palaro, which will start a week from now.

Uptwon FC is organizing a two-day festival at UP on April 19 and 20, the Inter Club wants to have a game between Cebu’s best and the RP team, Manfred Schuwerk is meeting with the Cebu referees on Monday.

And from the chat box, European Chamber is holding a festival at CIS.

That’s it for now, ever since I got this muscle strain, which limited my time at the keyboard, typing more than a few words has been tough.

Maximo withdraws

FORMER CebuFA president Jonathan Maximo reiterated his wish not to serve in the new board and will be withdrawing from the CebuFA elections on March 29.

Maximo was nominated during the assembly last March 15.

Here’s his e-mail.

This is in connection with the CebuFA nominations last March 15, as published in Sun Star Daily March 16 issue.

I would like to thank the club(s), whoever they may be, who have nominated me for the position of CebuFA Board of Director, but I am respectfully declining the nomination and have no intention to stand in the forthcoming elections.

I was not able to attend the March 15 meeting because I have to attend to my daughter’s important school activity.  She is due to graduate this year.

I have already announced before my intention not to seek re-election as early as July 2007.  Four years at the helm is enough for me.  Its time for others to lead the local football body.

My sincere and deep appreciation for all the support.  Keep in touch.

Who gets to go to San Francisco?

The Greater Cebu Sports Organizing Committee is planning to send a football team to the International Children’s Games in San Francisco this July.

The target? The Cebu City Under-15 team that won the Philippine Olympic Festival last year.

The catch?  The ICG only features a six-a-side tournament, the whole team can’t go.

Like I said, who gets to go to San Francisco?

A surprising good news

With the Thirsty Cup over, the next gathering of football fans in Cebu will be on…

Hmm…let me see..

Aboitiz Age Group? No.

Aboitiz Men’s League? No.

There are the pocket tournaments at Don Bosco, but because of the distance, I can’t really get to watch the game.

Now here comes a surprise.

Out of the blue I got a call that a company is offering use of their field for a football fiesta. It’s in Banawa, a 2,000 square meter pitch.

Anyone interested?  Contact me and I’ll give you the details.

Sportsmanship

AFTER breaking the crap of each other (figuratively, of course) in the Cebu City Olympics finals, members of the Abellana National School and Paref Springdale football squads teamed up to devour plates full of delicacies and barrels of juice and drinks at Handuraw.

I hear, the winners footed the bill.

This could be a good tradition, and let those who get carded, NOT get any seconds.

Football update

There isn’t much news coming from the CebuFA but the rest of the community is sure as active. There is the Don Bosco futsal event, the ongoing Denker Cup and the just-concluded Cup at Cebu City Science High School.

Unfortunately, that is all I know.

No results, nothing. nada.

Cheers.
