Thirsty Cup attracts record field

CEBU’s premier football festival returns for another edition early next year with the 3rd Thirsty Cup at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit field on Jan. 7 and 8.

The two-day fiesta is expected to attract the best age groups and senior teams in Cebu as they compete with each other in seven-a-side games.

“In the first year we had 96 teams, 86 in the second year, and now we have 136 teams,” organizer Charlie Pages said.

Expected to fight it out in the tough senior division is defending champion Hiroshi FC, who claimed the first of its four titles this year in the 2nd Thirsty Cup. Crazy Horse FC, San Roque FC, and Queen City are also expected to give Hiroshi a run for their title.

On the other hand, teams from Silliman University and Foundation University in Dumaguete City are also expected to show up for the event.

Players from the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City will also reinforce some Cebu teams in the women’s division.

The event will also offer competition in the Under 8, U 10, U12, U14 and U16, giving Cebu’s top age group rivals another tournament to show who’s on top.

Aside from the young guns and current crop of senior players, the former stalwarts of Cebu football will also have their chance to shine in the 35-above group.

Just like in the second edition, organizers will also hold a launching party on Jan. 4 complete with a juggling contest and playstation contest. The players who arrive in the best uniform will also get an award.

the Sacred Heart School Jesuit field is the one located at Ayala..people just sometimes refer to it as the Ayala field. but SHS-J actually owns it. The party will be at Kaona grill..just beside the field..the Kaona grill is also owned by the Pages, who also owns Thirsty..

See you at the party MikeH

MikeH Says:

I see. Is it close to the Ayala shopping mall?

Baldur Says:

MikeH,

It’s impossible to miss. Good luck.

MikeH Says:

Thanks, now i only need to find a team to play for. Hehe

Watson Says:

MikeH, its best for you to join the FC Inter Cebu. You play right wing, CFA Mgr takes the left. It will be good teamwork

Baldur Says:

Why not try the Don Bosco team?
See for yourself if they are the assholes that Paul Weiler portrays them to be.

MikeH Says:

Watson, im a defender, but i can play most places, except as a goalie. ;)
Ill try to get in touch with Inter Cebu and see if something positive comes out.

MikeH Says:

Baldur,
I actually had one training with the Don Bosco guys january this year, when i was in Cebu on vacation. Theyre definetly not assholes. Theyre nice people, i was sitting on the sideline when someone came up to me and asked me if i wanted to play.

mike Says:

see that mikeh.

There are lots of bad eggs in all teams, it doesnt mean that just because one pissed you, the whole team is an asshole…it seems our esteemed friend missed that

Baldur Says:

It doesn’t matter so much which team you play for as long as you enjoy yourself. You’ll be okay with FC Inter but you have to be around Paul the “CFA Manager”. Manfred is a good guy though.

MikeH Says:

Baldur, youre right. But it wont be fun playing if he stands on the sideline shouting that im downgrading him and whatever his accusations are.

metatron Says:

no complete list of teams yet? that only means one thing: the number of participants is bloated. what a scam

mike Says:

havent had the chance yet to ask for the list metatron.

MikeH Says:

Anyone out there who will let me play for a team in thirsty cup? im a defender and all available. Hehe im seeking to experience football in Philippines. If not, ill just watch.

sapphire Says:

why will the opening be at bright.it’s too far waya.what happened to the kaona grille venue?

mike Says:

Have no idea why they changed venues…maybe Kaona Grill is too small for the side events

ronaldo Says:

just saw ayala field for the first time this year.why are their heavy equipment digging up the field?will it be ready for the thirsty festival.also noticed that kaona grille is now closed.

MikeH Says:

Lets just assume that the field wont be ready. If that happens, what will happen with the Thirsty Cup this coming weekend? Do they have back up plans? Do they have a reserve field where they can move the Thirsty Cup to. And if the Ayala field wont be ready, then they should let the participating teams know what will happen. They need to contact the teams or else it will be too late.

ronaldo Says:

if the field is included in that development then cebu has one less fielde for games.

heroshi team had defeted by crazy hourse
